Born In 1978, I was raised in the family owned Rest Home in Bexhill. One of the residents played the violin and started teaching me, I had professional lessons from the age of 6. In 1986 I joined St Peters Church Choir, I've sung in several Cathedrals including Wells, Lichfield and York Minster. We toured in East and West Berlin and made several recordings. I worked up to be head choirboy before I left when my voice broke.
I moved from playing Violin to guitar at High School and spent a week at Herbie Flowers' Rockshop, During the week the local TV network Meridian came and filmed us, one of my compositions was used for the opening sequence and I appeared playing the guitar. The week culminated with me playing my own composition live at Brighton's Zap club. I studied at Sussex Downs College for a BTEC National Diploma in popular music in 2000. I received a distinction for a solo performance involving playing the guitar and singing, and a merit for performing arts in context. I was awarded a Practical Craft Skills stage 1 certificate from NCFE. After gaining my BTEC I received an acceptance from the Guitar Institute, at Thames Valley University, the entry requirements included demonstrating the ability to play to grade 8 on the guitar and passing a grade 6 level theory and aural test. But I chose to study Music at the University of Salford. In my final year I chose to study composition , Arranging and advanced jazz composition and arranging. Several of my compositions and arrangements can be heard on my myspace page http://www.myspace.com/danielhewson1 During 2008-9 I studied for a Post Graduate Certificate of Education at the University of East London, I've also passed a grade 8 piano exam with Trinity Guildhall. |
