During his childhood he received piano lessons from George Arvanitakis and Eleni Gerani. At the age of 16 he attained the Piano Soloist Diploma summa cum laude from L.E.A Academy of Music (Lykeio Ellinidon Ammohostou) in Larnaca.
In 2000 he moved to Germany to study Piano Performance in Classical Music with Professor Markus Tomas at the University of Music and Theater 'Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy' in Leipzig, Germany (MA Piano Performance). Later on he accomplished studies in Contemporary Improvisation with Professors Janosch Wozniak, Tilo Augsten and Peter Jarschow.
Nicolas Melis represented Cyprus at the international music festival Steinway for young pianists in Hamburg, Germany. He has won numerous competition awards at national and international level, including a Grand Prix at the 3rd International Piano Competition of Evangelia Tziarri Music Foundation for young pianists, the 1st Prize at the International Piano Competition for young musicians of H.O.N in Athens, Greece and a special prize at the 1st international piano competition of E.P.T.A. in Zagreb, Croatia among others.
He has performed as a concert soloist and chamber musician in Cyprus, Germany, England, Croatia, Bulgaria, Finland, Greece, Montenegro and Korea and he has collaborated with conductors Ron Dirk Entleutner (GER), Kim Ming Song (KOR), Alkis Baltas (GR), Lisa Xanthopoulou (GR) and Yiorgos Kountouris (CY).
Meliss frequent appearances with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra include
S. Rachmaninovs Piano concerto no.2 in C minor op. 18, performed in the main cities and music halls of Cyprus.
Nicolas Meliss activities in the field of music range from performing to composing and from teaching to mentoring. In recent years he has worked on the composition of contemporary music for live performances on stage.
Nicolas is currently a Piano Instructor at the Music Schools of Larnaca and Nicosia, tutoring young talented pianists who obtain national and international competition awards. Student of his have been accepted at music Universities worldwide. |
